THEY DON’T COME IN PEACE | 2021

Synopsis

As two brothers watch a news cast about extra terrestrial beings, the older brother uses the opportunity to make an analogy about their world being invaded by unwelcome visitors.

Made in 16mm with the support of the Kodak company, the short film reflects on the numbers of predominantly black people who are victims of police violence. With a short runtime, the caring relationship between the younger brother, his older brother and their mother is solid. The older brother’s choice to use a metaphor between the younger boy’s curiosity about alien abductions and cases of police brutality present on every corner demonstrates his concern and care for the boy.

Produced independently, the film effectively introduces a fantastic element into its language, finding an intelligent parallel between a harsh reality and its translation into a script that is underlined by the striking image that concludes the story.

Why we recommend it

This independent film reflects on the predominantly black victims of police violence through a fantastical element in its storytelling.
